Stamp Out Hunger!

The largest one-day nationwide food drive by the National Association of Letter Carriers on Saturday, May 10 is the easiest food drive for people to participate in, since all they have to do is place their food donations by their mail box for pickup by their letter carrier.

People who live in apartments or housing developments where they do not have a mail box by their house, can place their donations in the big red Food Bank barrels in Safeway, La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, Save Mart, Raley’s, Scolari’s, Smith’s, Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe’s in Reno and Sparks. Shoppers can then place their donations directly in the barrels. Donations can also be made online at www.fbnn.org.

To make donations even more convenient, Scolari’s offers for sale prepackaged bags of basic foods needed by the Food Bank, such as beans, chili, canned vegetables, fruits and cereal.

All donations in Reno and Sparks will go to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, the area’s only certified affiliate of America’s Second Harvest, the national network of more than 200 food banks and food rescue organizations. The Food Bank will distribute the food through its 108 partner agencies in 13 northern Nevada and seven California Sierra counties, including emergency food assistance pantries, senior nutrition centers, rehabilitation programs and shelters.

For more information about the food drive, call the Food Bank, 331-3663.
